Afghan Sheer Chai Recipe

Ingredients
  

  • 1 cup water
  • 2 cups milk
  • 2 teaspoons black tea
  • 2-3 cardamom pods
  • 2-3 teaspoons sugar
  • 1 small piece of cinnamon optional
  • 1-2 cloves optional

Method
 

  1. Prepare the water and spices
  2. Add 1 cup of water to a small saucepan. Lightly crush the cardamom pods and add them to the water. Add cinnamon and cloves if desired. Simmer for 2-3 minutes.
  3. Add the tea
  4. Add the black tea and let it simmer for a few minutes until the water becomes darker and fragrant.
  5. Add the milk
  6. Slowly pour in the milk. Reduce the heat and gently warm the mixture, stirring occasionally.
  7. Add the sugar
  8. Add 2-3 teaspoons of sugar, or adjust the amount according to your taste.
  9. Simmer the chai
  10. Keep the heat low and let the tea simmer gently for 3-5 minutes. Avoid boiling the milk too strongly.
  11. Strain and serve
  12. Strain the tea to remove the tea leaves and spices. Pour the hot Afghan sheer chai into cups and serve immediately.
