Ingredients

  • All-purpose flour: 2 cups
  • Warm water: 1/2 cup
  • Vegetable oil: 2 tbsp
  • Salt: 1 pinch
  • Apples Granny Smith or Honeycrisp: 4 medium
  • Sugar: 1/2 cup
  • Cinnamon: 1 tsp
  • Raisins:1/4 cup
  • Bread crumbs: 1/2 cup lightly toasted in butter
  • Melted butter: 3 tbsp
  • Lemon juice: 1 tbsp
  • Powdered sugar: for garnish

Method

  1. Step 1: Prepare the Dough:
  2. In a large bowl, mix flour, salt, oil, and warm water. Knead for about 10 minutes until the dough becomes smooth and elastic. Cover it with plastic wrap and let it rest for 30 minutes.
  3. Step 2: Make the Filling:
  4. Peel and slice the apples thinly. Combine them in a bowl with sugar, cinnamon, raisins, lemon juice, and toasted breadcrumbs. Mix well so the apples are coated evenly.
  5. Step 3: Roll the Dough:
  6. Lightly flour a clean surface. Roll out the dough as thin as possible, almost transparent. Brush it with melted butter to keep it soft and flavorful.
  7. Step 4: Add the Filling:
  8. Spread the apple mixture evenly over the dough, leaving a small border on all sides. Gently roll the dough from one end to the other, forming a long log shape. Seal the edges carefully.
  9. Step 5: Bake:
  10. Place the strudel on a parchment-lined baking tray. Brush the top with butter and bake at 180 C for 35-40 minutes until golden and crisp.
  11. Step 6: Serve:
  12. Let it cool slightly. Dust with powdered sugar and serve warm with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream.
