Ingredients

  • - 1/4 cup basmati rice
  • - 1 liter whole milk
  • - 1/3 cup granulated sugar
  • - 1/4 teaspoon ground cardamom
  • - 10-12 saffron strands optional
  • - 2 tablespoons raisins
  • - 2 tablespoons chopped pistachios
  • - 2 tablespoons sliced almonds

Method

  1. Wash the Rice:
  2. Rinse basmati rice several times until the water runs clear. Soak the rice in water for 20 minutes, then drain.
  3. Heat the Milk:
  4. Pour whole milk into a heavy-bottomed saucepan and bring it to a gentle boil over medium heat.
  5. Cook the Rice:
  6. Add the soaked rice to the milk and reduce the heat to low. Cook slowly, stirring occasionally to prevent sticking.
  7. Simmer Until Creamy:
  8. Continue cooking for 35-45 minutes until the rice becomes soft and the milk thickens into a creamy consistency.
  9. Add Sugar and Spices:
  10. Add sugar, cardamom, saffron, and raisins. Cook for another 10 minutes until well combined.
  11. Garnish and Serve:
  12. Remove from heat and garnish with chopped pistachios and sliced almonds. Serve warm, at room temperature, or chilled.
