Soak the rice in water with a pinch of salt for 1-3 hours.
Chop the onion and fry in oil (or lamb fat) until golden. Add the meat, spices, and tomato paste. Pour water, cover, and cook for 30 minutes until meat is tender.
Drain the rice and add it to the meat mixture. Ensure there is just enough liquid so the rice cooks properly.
Bring to a boil, then reduce heat to low, cover, and cook until the rice is soft and water is absorbed.
Optional: Add vegetables like carrots or potatoes for extra nutrition.
