Momos Recipe (Authentic Himalayan Dumplings)

Momos are traditional Himalayan dumplings filled with seasoned meat or vegetables, popular in Nepal, Tibet, and northern India. These steamed dumplings are light, juicy, and perfect as a snack or main dish, usually served with spicy momo chutney.

Ingredients
  

  • For the dough:
  • All-purpose flour -2 cups
  • Salt - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Water- 3/4 cup as needed
  • For the filling chicken version:
  • Minced chicken-300 g
  • Onion finely chopped -1 medium
  • Garlic minced - 2 cloves
  • Ginger grated - 1 teaspoon
  • Soy sauce - 1 tablespoon
  • Sesame oil -1 teaspoon
  • Black pepper -1/2 teaspoon
  • Salt - to taste
  • Green onion - 2 tablespoons

Method
 

  1. In a bowl, mix flour and salt. Gradually add water and knead into a soft dough. Cover and rest for 20 minutes.
  2. Combine all filling ingredients in a bowl and mix well.
  3. Roll dough thin and cut into small circles.
  4. Place 1 tablespoon filling in the center of each wrapper.
  5. Fold and pleat to seal momos.
  6. Steam momos for 12-15 minutes until translucent and cooked.
  7. Serve hot with momo chutney.
