Ingredients
  

  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup yogurt or milk or a mix of both
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tbsp sugar
  • ½ tsp salt
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 2 tbsp melted butter or oil
  • Oil for frying as needed

Method
 

  1. In a large bowl, whisk together the egg, yogurt (or milk), sugar, salt, and melted butter.
  2. Gradually add flour and baking powder, mixing until a soft dough forms.
  3. Cover the dough and let it rest for 15–20 minutes.
  4. Divide the dough into equal portions and roll each into a thin round (about 3–5 mm thick).
  5. Heat oil in a deep pan until hot.
  6. Fry each round of dough until golden and puffed, flipping once.
  7. Place fried Shelpek on paper towels to remove excess oil.
  8. Serve warm with honey, jam, cheese, or alongside soups and stews.
